Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0129162A2] The open end-pieces of a sealing envelope (3) are joined together over the end-pieces of a carpet roll (1) with the aid of closing bows (16, 18). The carpet roll (1) and the sealing envelope (3) are rotated, as a result of which the sealing envelope (3) is wound over the end-pieces of the carpet roll and that part (29) of the sealing envelope which is enclosed between the closing bows (16, 18). At each end of the carpet roll, the end-piece of the part (29) of the sealing envelope is seized between the pointed part (26) of a sleeve (9) and its plastic stopper (20), which is pushed over the sleeve and bears by a collar (21) against a flange (24) which is displaceably mounted on the sleeve (9). When the front edge of the plastic stopper (20) approaches the closing bows with the continued movement of the sleeve towards the carpet roll, these bows are moved away from one another and the material (29) is pushed into the end of a tube (2) onto which the carpet is rolled. During the continued movement of the sleeve (9), the end-piece (26) of the sleeve enters the tube (2). When the front edge of the plastic stopper reaches the end-piece of the carpet roll, the plastic stopper (20) and the flange (24) on the sleeve are pushed back against a fixed stop (23). Thus, a region (27) on the sleeve is exposed which has a diameter corresponding to the internal diameter of the plastic stopper. This region of the sleeve centres and smooths the material (29) in the end-piece of the tube (2), after which the plastic stopper (20), with the continued movement of the sleeve (9), is pushed into the tube. Thereafter, the sleeves (9) are withdrawn into their starting position. <IMAGE>
