Abstract (en)
Locking device, typically for electrically actuated motor vehicle door latches and the like, uses a key (10) having a light impermeable blade (11) with at least two series of lightpermeable apertures (12, 13) e.g. along its opposite edges whose positioning provides a key code. The device incorporates light transmitters (31) and receivers (32) positioned to read the apertures of each series and generate signals corresponding to the code as the key is withdrawn from a slot (24) after insertion which actuates a switch (38) which energises the transmitters. A logic circuit provides an unlocking signal in response only to a key having the correct coding.
