[origin: US4580005A] A wash-tight electromagnetic relay having a housing including a bottom part and a cover part. The cover part includes a top side in which a spigot projecting inwardly toward the relay is formed and which defines a borehole extending through the spigot to a spigot bottom having an opening. The borehole opens outwardly from the cover part permitting a ball to be tightly pressed therein. The bottom part is sealed to the cover part by a sealing material and the relay interior is degassed to exhaust gas contaminants, filled with an inert atmosphere and sealed by the ball to prevent the entry of further gas contaminants.

Bei einem waschdichten elektromagnetischen Relais mit einem Gehäuseteil, das eine nach außen erweiterte, dichtverschlossene Öffnung aufweist, durch die das Relais entgast und mit reaktionsträgem Gas gefüllt werden kann und die nach dem Entgasen und/oder Füllen des Relais verschlossen wird, ist erfindungsgemäß die Öffnung (12) im Boden (11) eines an einem Gehäuseteil (3) angeformten, mit einer zylindrischen oder nach außen sich trichterförmig erweiternden oder einer zunächst zylindrischen und anschließend sich nach außen trichterförmig erweiternden Bohrung (10) versehenen Zapfen (9) angebracht und in die Bohrung (10) ist eine Kugel (13) oder ein Stift (14) dicht eingedrückt. Hierdurch wird die Verunreinigung der inneren Atmosphäre des Relais durch die bekannte Dichtung mittels Kunstharz vermieden.
