Belt feed for cartridged ammunition, with a feed shaft (40) and a control element which is driven by the feed shaft (40) to take up the cartridges held by the belt in order to transport them further and which preferably is constructed as a star wheel (9), a coupling being located between the feed shaft (40) and the drive source, characterized by the fact that means are provided for temporarily braking the belt (5, 6), the means comprising a lever (1) with lever arms (10', 10") which is mounted pivotably about a fulcrum (4) located in the feed housing (3) and integral with the latter, and extending into the plane of the travel of the belt, while the first lever arm (10') belonging to the lever (1) and extending into the plane of the travel of the belt (5, 6) has two control surfaces (a, b) which, staggered in time, can be caused to come to rest as tangential surfaces against the outer casing of two adjacent cartridges (5, 6) of the belt.
