Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0132505A2] 1. A cylinder head (1) made of a ferrous material, especially grey cast iron, for a valve-controlled internal combustion engine, the cylinder head having valve apertures (2, 3), each of which is provided with a valve seat (6), for at least one each inlet and outlet valve, in which at least the valve web region (13) located in the cylinder head's bottom between the valve apertures (2, 3) is surface-hardened, characterized in that the cylinder head's bottom region forming the valve seats (6) is surface-hardened, that each hardened valve seat zone (8) merges into the hardened valve web zone (7), and in that the depth of hardening of at least the hardened valve web zone (7) is equivalent to between 0.1 and 0.2 times the distance (A) between the cylinder head bottom (4) and a coolant chamber (10) arranged between the valve apertures (2, 3).
