An apparatus for cooking or for heating equipped with several gas burners some or all where of are intended for cyclic operation, the gas line of each such burner incorporating valve means to control gas flow to said burner and ignition means, the valve means of each gas burner intended for cyclic operation being associated with a cycle timing device comprising a timer and a valve controlled by said timer characterized in that the valve means in the gas line to each gas burner intended for cyclic operation (1A through 1E) is a multi-way valve (4A through 4E) with two alternative inlets (41, 42), gas passing to each such burner intended for cyclic operation through either of said inlets, one of said two inlets (41) being connected by a gas line (3A through 3E) to a main gas line (2) and the other one of said inlets (42) being connected to a cyclic-operation gas line common to all such multiway valves associated with said burners intended for cyclic operation (5) and in that said common cyclic-operation gas line (5) is connected to said main gas line (2) through a valve (7) controlled by the timer (8) of one cycle timing device common to all such burners intended for sequentiel operation (6).
