Austenitic manganese hard steel having the following alloy constituents in percent by weight : 0,8 to 1,8 C 6,0 to 18,0 Mn 0 to 3,0 Cr 0 to 2,0 Ni 0 to 2,5 Mo 0 to 1,0 Si wherein the ratio of the carbon content to the manganese content is from 1 to 8 to 1 to 14 and the balance consists of iron, impurities, deoxidation elements and micro-alloying elements, characterised by the following contents of micro-alloying elements in percent by weight : 0,005 to 0,05, preferably to 0,03 V, 0,008 to 0,02 B and 0 to 0,05 Ti, wherein the specified upper limit of the vanadium content also applies in respect of the sum of V and B and wherein there is preferably an aluminium content of from 0,02 to 0,09% by weight.
