A ladder including first and second leg elements, a plurality of treads, and pivot means coupling the plurality of treads to each of the leg elements for selectable pivoting from an operative orientation, wherein the longitudinal axes of the treads are perpendicular to the longitudinal axes of the leg elements, to a collapsed orientation, wherein the longitudinal axes of the treads are parallel to the longitudinal axes of the leg elements, the first leg element being arranged for selectable slideable motion with respect to the treads and the second leg element.
