[origin: US4621192A] A device for measuring the gradient of a magnetic field comprises on the same support two magnetooptical layers separated by a half-wave plate. A linearly polarized light beam successively passes through these three optical components and its polarization plane rotates by a value proportional to the gradient of the field in its propagation direction.

L'invention concerne un dispositif pour mesurer le gradient d'un champ magnétique. Elle consiste à associer sur un même support (16) deux couches (11, 13) magnéto-optiques séparées par une lame 1/2 onde (12). Un faisceau lumineux (100) polarisé rectilignement qui traverse successivement ces trois composants optiques voit son plan de polarisation tourner d'une valeur proportionnelle au gradient du champ selon sa direction de propagation. Elle permet de réaliser un gradientmètre intégré.
