[origin: EP0137871A1] Single phase aqueous liquid detergent compositions having a viscosity of > 180 centipoises at 20 DEG C are provided by amine oxide - anionic surfactant systems in which the total surfactant level is not more than 3.0% by weight and in which the proportion of amine oxide and anionic surfactant is in the range 80:20-99.9:0.1, more preferably 93.5:6.5-99.0:1.0, percent by weight, the compositions also comprising one or more ionisable non surface active organic or inorganic compound in an amount to give an ionic strength of at least 3.5 moles/dm<3>.
