[origin: EP0138138A2] In the spot-dyeing of textile filamentary material, in particular a yarn (1), the latter is passed at high speed in the extended state past at least one colour spray nozzle (3) which rotates about an axis (7) which extends transversely to the yarn transport direction, spraying the yarn intermittently with dyeing liquor (8). To avoid regular pattern formation or patterning in the woven or knitted material made from the yarn thus dyed, the speed of rotation of the colour spray nozzle (3) is continuously varied in irregular fashion as the yarn moves past it. To this end, the drive of the rotating colour spray nozzle (7) is an electric motor (12) of variable speed whose control circuit (14) includes not only an adjustable voltage generator (15) for generating the basic control voltage but also, for continuously changing the control voltage (18') of the electric motor (12), one or more voltage generators (16, 17) with frequency and amplitude adjustability whose voltages are mutually superposed. <IMAGE>
