[origin: WO8403903A1] The presence of microorganisms, such as bacteria, in a sample is determined by contacting the sample with an emissive agent, for example a radioactive amino acid; separating off the excess emissive agent after an appropriate incubation period; and detecting the level of emission from the residue, for example with a radiation counter. The emissive agent may be carried in an absorbent member of a device such as a dipstick or reagent strip.

On détermine la présence de micro-organismes, par exemple des bactéries dans un échantillon, en mettant en contact l'échantillon avec un agent d'émulsion, par exemple un acide aminé radioactif, en séparant l'agent d'émulsion excédentaire après une période d'incubation appropriée et en détectant le niveau d'émission du résidu, par exemple, au moyen d'un compteur de radiations. L'agent d'émission peut être porté dans un élément absorbant d'un dispositif comme une jauge ou une bande réactive.
