1. A process for removing gangue from a metallic piece of archaeology, in particular a piece of archaeology from the sea, characterised in that the piece is treated in an aqueous bath containing 8 to 40 grams of OH**- ions/I, under a cathodic polarization, while maintaining this piece for a sufficient time to obtain at least a partial detachment of the gangue from the piece, then the piece is withdrawn from the bath and the gangue is separated from the piece.

La présente invention a pour objet un procédé pour enlever la gangue d'une pièce métallique, notamment d'une pièce d'archéologie marine, caractérisé en ce qu'on effectue un traitement de la pièce dans un bain aqueux contenant de 8 à 40 grammes d'ions OH /1, sous une polarisation cathodique, en maintenant cette pièce pendant un temps suffisant pour obtenir un détachement au moins partiel de la gangue par rapport à la pièce, puis on retire la pièce du bain et on sépare la gangue de la pièce.
