Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0143419A2] 1. A compact low-pressure discharge lamp including a wound, tubular, glass discharge vessel (1) which comprises a plurality of subsidiary components, comprising two electrodes fused in sealed fashion at the ends of the discharge vessel (1), a filling of mercury and at least one inert gas and comprising a fluorescent coating on the inner walls of the discharge vessel (1), where each subsidiary component (2, 3) comprises a U-bent tube with two longitudinal tube sections and a transverse tube section (4, 5) which extends substantially at right-angles to the longitudinal tube sections, where the free ends of the longitudinal tube sections are sealed and the individual subsidiary components are arranged such that the longitudinal tube sections extend in parallel with one another and the sealed tube ends all face towards the same side, and where adjacent subsidiary components are connected to one another by a passage (12) close to the ends of the two longitudinal tube sections in such manner as to form a single coherent discharge path, characterized in that the passage (12) which connect adjacent subsidiary components (2, 3) is formed by a tranverse fusion coupling (13) and the free ends of the longitudinal tube sections of each subsidiary component (2, 3) are sealed by a pinch (6, 7, 8, 9).
