Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0144596A2] 1. An apparatus for the extraction of liquid from fibrous matted materials obtained in the form of an elongate mass, in particular of sugar cane bagasse having a high moisture content, to which apparatus the materials are supplied in loosened form and which comprises two cooperating hollow pressing rolls (9) with a liquid collecting channel, which rolls are rotatably and drivably mounted in a supporting framework (2), wherein the peripheral wall of one pressing roll is perforated and the nip (18) between the pressing rolls is sealed in the region of its end faces by lateral boundary walls (19 and 22), and there is provided a feed device for the materials to be squeezed which extends to the lateral boundary walls and surrounds the cross-section of the inlet to the nip, characterised in that the central longitudinal axes of the two pressing rolls (9) lie in a common horizontal plane and the feed device is designed as a shaft (6) projecting beyond the inlet to the nip (18 or 22) between the pressing rolls (9), and in that the peripheral walls (10) of the two pressing rolls are not only perforated but also equipped with radially projecting entrainers (16; 16a; and 16b) in the form of knobs or strips and each pressing roll is provided with a liquid collecting channel (12).
