1. A method of representing scripts with different printing directions on a display unit, where the graphic characters of a first script are assigned a first printing direction and the graphic characters of a second script are assigned a printing direction opposite to the first printing direction and where, for the representation of the graphic characters of the first script, a cursor is moved in the first printing direction and in each case identifies the printing position at which the respective next input graphic character of the first script will be represented, where, following a switch-over to the second script, the input graphic characters (Z5 to Z7) of the second script are each input following the last printing position of the first script, where the cursor (SM) is not moved during the input and where, following the input of each graphic character (Z5 to Z7) of the second script, the respective previously input graphic characters of the second script are each moved by one character position in the first printing direction, characterised in that following the switch-over to the second script the cursor (SM) is moved to the last graphic character (Z4) of the first script and remains at this position until a switch-back to the first script takes place within the line, that the cursor (SM) is a character which fills one character position and that following the switch-over to the second script the last graphic character (Z4) of the first script is represented in inverted form within the cursor (SM).

Bei einer Darstellung von Schriftzeichen (Z1 bis Z7), die Schriften mit unterschiedlichen Schreibrichtungen zugeordnet sind, insbesondere einer Darstellung von lateinischen und arabischen Schriftzeichen werden die Schriftzeichen (Z1 bis Z4) der ersten Schrift mit der ersten Schreibrichtung aufeinanderfolgend an der Anzeigeeinheit (AE) dargestellt, wobei eine Schreibmarke (SM) jeweils an diejenige Stelle verschoben wird, an der das nächstfolgende Schriftzeichen dargestellt wird. Nach einer Umschaltung in die zweite Schrift wird die Schreibmarke (SM) auf das letzte Schriftzeichen (Z4) der ersten Schrift verschoben und die Schriftzeichen (Z5 bis Z7) der zweiten Schrift werden in der ersten Schreibrichtung neben der Schreibmarke (SM) dargestellt, wobei jeder Eingabe eines neuen Schriftzeichens (Z6, Z7) die jeweils vorhergehenden Schriftzeichen (Z5, Z6) der zweiten Schrift um eine Zeichenstelle in der ersten Schreibrichtung verschoben werden. Nach einer Wiedrumschaltung in die erste Schrift springt die Schreibmarke (SM) in der ersten Schreibrichtung neben das erste Zeichen (Z5) der zweiten Schrift.
