[origin: EP0146303A2] A light-reflector type encoding method which comprises emitting light from one end of an optical fiber to a mobile body which moves relatively to said end of the optical fiber, through an opticat lattice disposed at a fixed position relatively to said fiber end, receiving the reflected light from at least plural light-reflective graduations provided in the light-emitted zone of said mobile body through the optical lattice, and detecting the received reflected light with a photoelectric conversion element connected to the other end of the optical fiber.The present invention also provides a light-reflective type encoder suitable for carrying out the encoding method.
