Switching mechanism for a protective power circuit breaker, in which the contact bridge (4), which is pivotally mounted in the housing (6) by way of a bearing (17, 18) having play, is connected in articulated manner on the one hand, preferably via a bridge plate (9), to a guide rod (8) which for its part is coupled to an actuating knob (7) and on the other hand to the armature (13) of the magnet release via an armature plate (19), whereby the paths of motion of the armature plate (19) and the guide rod (8) cross, characterised in that at least one projection (22) is provided on the armature plate (19) of the magnet release, in that the projection (22) lies against the face of the guide rod (8) facing the magnet release during motion of the guide rod (8) into its position corresponding to the closed position of the movable contact (5), whereby the contact (5) of the contact bridge (4) is held at a distance from the fixed contact (1), and in that the projection (22) engages in a recess (32) in the guide rod (8) in the position corresponding to the closed position of the movable contact bridge (4).
