In an elevator device for a wheelchair (1) of the type comprising on the one hand, an articulated structure (12) comprising a seat (15), a footrest (16) and a back (14), adapted on the frame (2) of such a wheelchair and constituted by two symmetrical lateral systems (13) each comprising a first deformable quadrilateral (17) contributing to the support of the seat and articulated on the front part of the frame, a second deformable quadrilateral (26) contributing to the support of the footrest (33), articulated on the front part of the first and a back reinforcement (34) articulated on the rear part of the first deformable quadrilateral, and, on the other hand, at least one elastic compensating member (38), in order to control the pivoting of the structure (12) from a position of maximum lowering to a position of maximum elevation and inversely, characterized in that : - the elastic compensating members (38) are constituted by two gas-actuated jacks performing a function of compensation by absorption of energy in the course of retraction during the lowering of the structure (12) and of the user carried by this structure, and a function of restitution of energy in the course of extension during elevation of the structure, - and the driving means are constituted by two manoeuvring assemblies (41) respectively interposed between the frame (2) and one of the first deformable quadrilaterals (17) and performing on the one hand, a function of manual control, of monitoring the relative pivoting of the corresponding system (13) with respect to the frame, and on the other hand, a function of geometrical locking of said system, either in a lowering position, or in the elevated position of the structure with respect to the frame.
