Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0149562A2] An amusement device enables two players to play a game resembling conventional arm wrestling. One player sits on a seat (8) each side of the device. Each player has a handle (16) to grasp, the handle being mounted on an associated operating arm (15) connected to a common main shaft (24) which is rotatable about a horizontal axis. Biasing means (19, 20) is provided to compensate for differences in the players' strengths or physiques. The biasing means may comprise a reversible motor (19) which drives, through reduction gearing, the input of a slipping clutch (20). The output of the clutch is connected to the main shaft. The strength of the coupling effected by the clutch can be varied. Sensing switches (30, 35) are operated by each player when he or she is in a suitable playing position. Movement from that position generates warning signals. In a modification the device may be used by a single player. In that case the biasing means counters unaided the forces exerted by the player. The second handle and arm may be omitted if the device is always to be used by only a lone player.
