Baignoire comportant une porte latérale (4) propre à s'ouvrir vers l'extérieur par basculement autour d'une articulation (5) d'axe vertical pour dégager une échancrure (3) ou baie d'accès à la baignoire, caractérisée par le fait que la largeur de l'échancrure, mesurée horizontalement, va en croissant de façon continue du bas vers le haut, que le contour de l'échancrure (3) sur la paroi du corps (1) de la baignoire présente une feuillure tournée vers l'intérieur de la baignoire, que le contour coopérant de la porte (4) présente une feuillure complémentaire tournée vers l'extérieur de la baignoire, un joint d'étanchéité étant prévu entre les deux feuillures, et que la porte est équipée d'une poignée de manoeuvre (17) et d'un mécanisme propre, sous l'action de la poignée de manoeuvre, à soulever la porte à partir de sa position fermée basse pour dégager verticalement les deux feuillures l'une de l'autre au moins dans leur zone éloignée de l'articulation et permettre le libre pivotement d'ouverture de la porte vers l'extérieur.
