Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0152629A2] The ski-binding possesses a front sole retaining device (1) and a rear sole retaining device (2), the front sole retaining device being convertible from a position of use for cross-country skiing to a position of use for downhill skiing. For this purpose, a U-shaped bracket (7) and a floating axle (12) are provided, the latter being retained by the two legs (8) and (9) of the bracket at a distance above the ski which somewhat exceeds the thickness of the sole of the boot. As a result, it is possible to use the floating axle (12) as a sole retainer and abutment, the edge of the sole engaging under the floating axle and being pressed against the floating axle (12) by the rear sole retaining device. The rear sole retaining device possesses a sole retainer (3) for upward release and a slide (5) which provides lateral release in the event of overload. In this adjustment, the ski binding serves as a downhill binding. The floating axle (12) can, however, also connect the sole of the boot to the bracket (7) if it is passed through a bearing bush (20) in the sole (17) of the boot and retained by the legs (8 and 9). As a result, the boot can be pivoted about the floating axle. This is cross-country position of the ski-binding, the rear sole retaining device being ineffective in this case. <IMAGE>
