[origin: US4599974A] A combustion chamber is subdivided vertically into layers with each layer having sets of burners disposed in angular spaced apart relation. In addition, the sets of burners are offset from one layer to another and all of the jet axes of the burners are directed in the same direction tangentially of a vertically disposed imaginary cylinder within the combustion chamber. The jets create a vortex flame within the combustion chamber.
