A work plate having a chopping knife (1), particularly for the preparation of food, in which one end portion of the chopping knife (1) is secured to an upright support (4) so as to be pivotable horizontally and vertically, and the other end portion of said chopping knife has a handle which is rotatable about a horizontal axis, an opening (28) being provided in the work plate for the purpose of mounting the vertical support (4), and the chopping knife (1) has a continuous edge (12) which a continuous cutting edge, characterized in that the work plate (5, 24, 25) has in the region of the working surface (26) a trough-shaped recess (7) which is surrounded by a continuous bead (27), that a convex edge (12, 31) is formed over the length of the blade (29, 30) on each side of the cutter member (2) of the chopping knife (1), one edge (12) having the continuous cutting edge (32) with a group portion (33) and the other edge (31) having a row of successive teeth (14), and that the vertical support (4) comprises a support member (34) of generally cylindrical construction having an integral lug (35) which is inserted through the opening (28) and which is releasably secured to the underside (36) of the work plate (5, 24, 25) and is supported against a spring (37) disposed on the underside (36) of the work plate (5, 24, 25).
