[origin: WO8504147A1] A sail on a cylindrical mast (10) provides an aerodynamically shaped leading edge automatically oriented into relative wind, and a smooth shape behind the mast automatically adjusting for changes in trim of the sail. Flexible rib pairs (41) opposite the mast are clamped tangentially to full length battens (28), the battens defining the shape of the ribs and the orientation of the leading edge.

Bei einem an einem zylindrischen Mast angebrachten Segel ist eine aerodynamisch geformte Vorderkante (39) vorgesehen, die sich automatisch zum scheinbaren Wind ausrichtet und eine glatte Übergangsform hinter dem Mast hervorruft und automatisch den Trimmwechsel des Segels einstellt. Flexible Rippenpaare (42) sind tangential an über die volle Breite des Segels verlaufende Latten anliegend an entgegengesetzten Seiten des Mastes angeklemmt, wobei diese Segellatten (28) die Form der Rippen und die Ausrichtung der Vorderkante definieren.
