Process for the preparation of a fuel for a carburettor engine, wherein light oil originating from coal is treated in a refining step and a succeeding reforming step, characterized in that a core fraction having the relatively highest benzol content is distilled off from the reformate (feed reformate), the boiling range of the core fraction to be distilled off being approx. 65 to 85 degrees C, that the other two reformate fractions are combined and jointly used as carburettor engine fuel, and that this carburettor engine fuel has a benzol content of at most 5 % by wt.
