A system for securing a door handle unit having two door handles in a door lock, the unit having a spindle which is operative to interconnect the two door handles and which has a cross-section other than round to match a corresponding aperture other than round in the follower of the door lock for mounting in such aperture without rotation relatively thereto, that part of the spindle which in the normal operating position is in the follower being transversely divided, the two spindle parts being releasably interconnected, characterised in that spring means (11; 18, 18') are associated with the spindle and the same is movable lengthwise against the force of the spring means (11; 18, 18') relatively to the follower (12a), the length of such movement being at least equal to the distance between the plane of division of the spindle and the outside of the follower, so that when the spindle has been moved its two parts (5, 6) can be interconnected or released from one another by being turned relatively to one another.
