Device for tufting, in particular edge tufting or overtufting, textile workpieces (24), such as mats or the like, comprising a worktable (11) and, associated therewith, a tufting machine (32) with a row of tufting needles (33). For the fully automatic or preprogrammable application of an edge overtuft, the device possesses a workpiece holder (plunger 10) which moves the workpiece (24) on the worktable (11) in the direction of preferably orthogonal X- and Y-coordinates and is rotatable about an upright Z-axis. Instead of moving the workpiece (24) according to the Cartesian system of coordinates it is also possible to guide the workpiece according to another system of coordinates, for example polar coordinates. The workpiece holder (plunger 10) has a plunger plate (25) which covers the workpiece (24) while leaving free the workpiece edge (34). <IMAGE>

Vorrichtung zum Tuften, insbesondere Rand- bzw. Overtuften, von textilen Werkstücken (24), wie Matten od.dgl., mit einem Arbeitstisch (11) und einer diesem zugeordneten, eine Tuftingnadel-Reihe (33) aufweisenden Tuftingmaschine (32). Zur vollautomatischen bzw. vorprogrammierbaren Anbringung eines randseitigen Overtufts weist die Vorrichtung einen das Werkstück (24) auf dem Arbeitstisch (11) in Richtung vorzugsweise orthogonaler X- und Y-Koordinaten bewegbaren sowie um eine aufrechte Z-Achse verdrehbaren Werkstückhalter (Stempel 10) auf. Statt einer Bewegung des Werkstücks (24) nach dem kartesischen Koordinatensystem ist auch eine Werkstückführun nach einem anderen Koordinatensystem, z.B. polarem Koordinatensystem möglich. Der Werkstückhalter (Stempel 10) weist eine das Werkstück (24) unter Freilassung des Werkstückrandes (34) abdeckende Stempelplatte (25) auf.
