Abstract (en)
The invention concerns protective clothing in the form of a system of garments that protects the wearer or the surrounding atmosphere by preventing particulate matter from passing from the body of the person wearing the garments into the surrounding atmosphere or vice versa. The garment fabric is a laminate of expanded, porous, water vapour and gas permeable, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) bonded to a porous, water vapour and gas permeable backing material. Particulate matter is blocked by the very fine pores of the garment. The garments preferably present virtually a 100% external surface of non-linting PTFE. To eliminate gaps between the garments (2, 4, 6, 8, 10) after they have been put on, cuffs (16, 18, 20, 22) made of a laminate of elastomeric, expanded PTFE and a stretch fabric are provided wherever two garments are to be joined together, the cuffs mutually overlapping.
