[origin: US4663086A] The invention relates to a process for bituminizing radioactive waste constituted by cation and/or anion exchange resins. This process comprises a resin pretreatment stage performed so as to replace the H+ ions of the cation exchange resins by ions chosen from the group including Ca++, Sr++ and Ba++ and/or for replacing the OH- and/or Cl- ions of the anion exchange resins by an anion chosen from the group including NO3-, HCO2- and CH3CO2-. This pretreatment makes it possible to increase the capacity of the coating installation and limit the swelling in water of the bituminized coatings obtained.

L'invention concerne un procédé de bitumage de déchets radioactifs constitués par des résines échangeuses de cations et/ou par des résines échangeuses d'anions. Ce procédé comprend une étape de prétraitement des résines effectué de façon à remplacer les ions H<+> des résines échangeuses de cations par des ions choisis dans le groupe comprenant Ca<+><+>, Sr<+><+> et Ba<+><+> et/ou pour remplacer les ions OH<->, et/ou CI<-> des résines échangeuses d'anions par un anion choisi dans le groupe comprenant NO3<->, HCO2<-> et CH3CO2<->. Ce prétraitement permet d'augmenter la capacité de l'installation d'enrobage et de limiter le gonflement dans l'eau des enrobés bitumés obtenus.
