[origin: US4623035A] A muffler is disclosed comprising a closed housing having an annular inlet and an annular outlet neck, and the housing having arranged therein a pair of axially extending pipes which are at least partially overlapping one another. One of the pipes is connected to the inlet neck and has a circumferentially arranged passageway to permit the exhaust gases to be directed from the inlet neck to the inside of the housing. The other pipe is connected to the outlet neck and has a circumferentially arranged passageway to permit the exhaust gases to be directed from inside the housing to the outlet neck.

Ein das kritische Geräuschspektrum bedämpfender Reflexions-schalldämpfer (10) weist ein in Längsrichtung mit einem Fenster (11) versehenes Rohr (15) auf, das mit einem Gehäuse- einlaß (6) verbunden ist sowie ein mit dem Auslaßstutzen (7) verbundenes Rohr (16) das ebenfalls ein über die Rohrlänge sich erstreckendes Fenster (12) aufweist, Jedem der beiden Rohre (15, 16) ist jeweils ein Paar von Reflexionsschalen (13, 21; 14, 22) zugeordnet, die gegenüber den Rohrfenstern (11, 12) so orientiert sind, daß der aus dem Fenster (11) austretende bzw. in das Fenster (12) eintretende Abgasstgrom vielfach reflektiert wird, bevor er wieder am Auslaßstutzen (7) aus dem Dämpfergehäuse (10) austritt.
