An apparatus for handling a railway-track switch panel by grasping and tilting it from its position on the ground up to an oblique position within the tranverse gauge of the track and vice versa, for the laying thereof and the depositing and transporting thereof on a suitable rail vehicle, charaterized by the fact that it comprises a support (1-2, 101, 101') having at least one resting shoe (1, 16, 103, 106) intended to be placed on the ballast, a horizontal pivot pin (3, 20, 107) parallel to the track and borne by the support on one side of the track in offset position with respect to the shoe, a carrier arm (4, 21, 109) extending in the transverse direction of the track and articulated at one end to said pivot pin, at least two rail hooking members (5, 25, 111) mounted on the carrier arm for the grasping of the panel, and a driving member (7, 23, 115) for tilting the carrier arm by pivoting around the pivot so that the panel grasped on the ground can be placed directly in oblique position within the gauge of the track by tilting of the carrier arm and loaded in this position on a rail vehicle suitable for its transportation introduced below the carrier arm by displacement on the ballast in the longitudinal direction of the track, and unloaded and placed in position by the opposite operations.
