Abstract (en)

1. A process for hard-burning haematite and/or iron ore pellets which contain heat-consuming fluxes on a travelling grate under oxidizing conditions by means of hot gases passed therethrough, the pellets containing incorporated therein solid carbonaceous material which supplies part of the heat required for hard-burning, characterized in that the Cfix content of the solid carbonaceous material incorporated in the pellets is measured stoichiometrically in such a way that it is up to 50% in excess of that amount required to reduce haematite to magnetite and of that amount required substantially to decompose the heat-consuming fluxes present, and that the hot gases are passed through the pellet bed in the burning zone of the travelling grate under a pressure of 5 to 20 mbar below atmospheric pressure.
