Abstract (en)

[origin: WO8501638A1] A bait for fruit fly comprising live bacteria of at least one species of the family Enterobacteriacae on which fruit fly have been found to feed. The bait includes a substrate which is able to support the growth of the bacteria, and an agent toxic to the fruit fly, such as a pesticide. Preferred attractant bacteria species are Erwinia herbicola, Citrobacter freundii, Citrobacter diversus, Providencia rettgeri, Klebsiella oxytoca, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus vulgari, Serratia liquefaciens. Fruit fly attractants are also disclosed comprising the above bacteria and a substrate, without the toxic agent. These attractants are primarily used in fruit fly traps. Also disclosed are baits and attractant compositions including volatile compounds which are produced by the bacteria, and which serve as attractants to fruit fly. Preferred attractant compounds are 2-butanone, phenylacetate, butan-1-ol and isopentanol. Storage-stable pre-mixes are also described.
