Device for locking and for making available a first portable data carrier formed by a key by means of a second portable data carrier formed by a key, and vice versa, comprising some first and second means for receiving and recognising the first and second data carrier respectively, these means for receiving comprising safety blocks (2, 3) arranged parallel and each formed of a barrel (6, 7) mounted in a fixed element (4, 5) to receive this barrel, each of the keys (8, 9) being capable of insertion or removal from the safety block (2, 3) which is associated with it only when its barrel (6, 7) is in a given position or orientation in relation to its receiving fixed element (4, 5), means being provided for rotatably linking the said barrels (6, 7) in such a way that they cannot simultaneously be situated in the said given positions or orientations for insertion and removal of the said keys (8, 9), characterised by the fact that the said safety blocks (2, 3) are arranged parallel inside a hollow case (10), the fixed elements (4, 5) of these blocks (2, 3) being in mutual contact and being in contact with the inner faces of the lateral and end walls of the said case (10) in such a way as to ensure that they are held and positioned in relation to one another and in relation to case (10) and that the end walls (11, 12) of the said hollow case offer openings for the said keys to have access to the said barrels.
