[origin: EP0164336A2] The gasification of solid fuels is influenced with a view to a better gas yield within a shorter time by alternate blowing and de-ashing of a fuel bed. For carrying out the process, a novel conical rotary grid structure is disclosed, whose aperture angle corresponds to the angle of repose of the loose material, so that the layer thickness of the loose material which lies above and is to be gasified is evened out. This design also allows the flow through the bed of loose material to be evened out. The grid has alternating blowing and de-ashing slots. <IMAGE>
