[origin: EP0164566A2] The pressure relief valve (13) provided at the tank (10) can be opened by the pressure of a control line (32) even if its response pressure has not been reached. The control line (32) is connected to a pressureless outlet line (16) or a pressure source via series circuit consisting of a valve (19) which reacts to temperature increases in the tank (10) and of a temperature-dependent shut-off member (20) which reacts to fire temperatures in the vicinity of the tank. If a fire occurs, temperature, liquid level and pressure in the tank (10) increase, and the shut-off member opens due to the increased outside temperature. Only if both conditions have been met does the series circuit cause gas to be released. The normal function of the pressure relief valve (13) is not impaired. It is possible to fill the tank (10) up to the maximum level of 98 % of the tank volume without having to fear that the 98 % level will be exceeded in the event of fire. <IMAGE>
