1. Apparatus for working the edge regions of glass plates (2), with a lateral support wall (1) preferably formed as an air-cushion wall for the glass plates (2) arranged substantially upright, and a conveyor device (3) arranged at the lower edge of the support wall (1), preferably in the form of at least one endless circulating conveyor belt, with a working tool (17) guided by a carriage (18) for sliding up and down on a substantially vertical guide bar (19) connected to the frame (20) of the apparatus, with a substantially vertical slot (14) in the support wall (1) arranged opposite the working tool (17) and in which is provided an abutment roller (15) rotatable about a substantially vertical axis (16) and at least partially engaging through the support wall (1), and with a driver device (8) for the glass plates (2) arranged between the lower end of the support wall (1) and the conveyor device (3) opposite to the working tool with reference to the glass plate (2), movable at least part of the time synchronously with the conveyor device (3), characterized in that the working tool (17) comprises a grinding or polishing wheel (24) coupled to a rotary drive for removing coatings, especially a metal layer from the glass plates (2), in that the working tool (17) is pivotally mounted on the carriage (18) through 90 degrees about a pivotal axis (33) perpendicular to the glass plate (2), and in that the pivotal axis (33) of the working tool (17) passes through the point of engagement (34) on the glass plate (2) of the grinding or polishing wheel (24).

In einer Vorrichtung zum Bearbeiten der Randbereiche tafelförmige Elemente ist eine Fördereinrichtung (3) für das tafelförmige Element und ein quer zur Förderrichtung hin und her bewegbares Bearbeitungswerkzeug (17) vorgesehen. Dem Bearbeitungswerkzeug (17) gegenüberliegend ist eine um eine quer zur Förderrichtung verlaufende Achse drehbare Abstützwalze (15) für das tafelförmige Element angeordnet. Die Fördereinrichtung (3) weist eine wahlweise synchron mit ihr bewegbare Mitnahmevorrichtung (8) für das tafelförmige Element auf.
