[origin: US4635575A] A sewing machine for sewing a rubber strip to a tubular end section of an item of clothing made from an elastic, textile fabric to form an endless, elastic gather, has a feed mechanism for feeding the rubber strip, and a presser foot and transportor for feeding the item of clothing. A brake and shear are positioned in the path of the rubber strip. When actuated, the brake holds the end section of rubber strip under a desired tension so that the end of the strip is precisely sewn to the item of clothing with respect to the front edge of the strip. Additionally, a light barrier is positioned in the path of the strip which has been sewn to the item of clothing to control the feed mechanism for feeding the rubber strip, the shear, and the brake.

Eine Nähmaschine zum Annähen eines Gummibandes (22) an einen schlauchförmigen Endabschnitt eines Kleidungsstückes (42) aus elastischem, textilem Stoff unter Bildung eines endlosen, elastischen Bundes, weist zwischen einer Vorschubeinrichtung (20), mittels deren das Gummiband (22) dem Drückerfuß (14) zugeführt wird, und derjenigen Stelle, an welcher der Drückerfuß (19) das Gummiband (22) gegen eine Unterlage (10) zu drücken beginnt, eine auf das Gummiband (22) einzuwirken vermögende Bremse (26,28,30) auf, um den nicht mehr von der Vorschubeinrichtung (22) kontrollierbaren Endabschnitt des Gummibandes (22) nach dem Abtrennen kontrolliert dem Drückerfuß (14) zuführen und kantengleich zu dem bereits an den Stoff (42) angenähten Anfang des Gummibandes (22) nähen zu können.
