[origin: EP0166351A2] Mounted on a forming machine for sheet material (2) which has the unwanted property of springback especially in the case of bending, is a device which contains the following components or subassemblies: - during the bending process, a sensor (10, 20, 30, 60) detects the amount and direction of the bending (X, alpha ) of the sheet material (2) and/or, upon retraction of the tool (1, 3, 7) from its set position, the amount and direction of the springback ( DELTA X, DELTA alpha ) of the sheet material (2) relieved from the load of the tool (1, 3, 7); - a downstream conversion member (14, 28, 29, 36, 61) produces electrical signals which correspond to the detected amount and direction of the bending (X, alpha ) and/or springback ( DELTA X, DELTA alpha ); - taking into account the characteristic values of the sheet material (2) and of the tool (1, 3, 7) and the detected bending (X, alpha ) and springback ( DELTA X, DELTA alpha ), a signal for the set position of the tool (1, 3, 7) is produced and stored in an electronic circuit (40) and passed to actuators (50) which move the tool (1, 3, 7) into the set position. <IMAGE>
