[origin: US4588358A] A rotary vane evacuating pump having two series connected pumping stages is disclosed. Each pumping stage is provided as an exchangeable unit and has a housing which is detachably connected to one face of an interface flange. The housings of the pumping stages are contained in a chamber defined between the interface flange and an outer shell which is detachably mounted thereto. The chamber is filled with water surrounding and contacting the two housings. Each pumping stage is readily dismantled for the purpose of service or replacement.
