Extensible ladder comprising at least one stand ladder (12) and at least one displaceable ladder (14), whereby each one of the ladders (12, 14) is provided with a pair of spars (16, 20) and steps (18, 22) connecting them and a supporting armature (26) fixed at the foot end of at least one displaceable ladder spar (20), having a U-shaped cross-section and being downwardly open, a stand ladder step (18) being contained between the U-legs (20, 32) thereof when the ladder is in a position for use, with the yoke surface (30) of the U-shaped supporting armature (26) supported on this stand ladder step (18), whereby the steps (18) of the stand ladder form a front side guide for displacement for the spars (20) of the displaceable ladder (14) and a movable catch (36) is arranged at at least one displaceable ladder spar (20) and in a position for use of the ladder (10) grips under a step (18) of the stand ladder (12) characterized in that guide elements (46) are fastened at the area of the uppermost stand ladder step (18), with a clearance grip behind the spars (20) of the displaceable ladder (14) at the rear side allowing a relative swinging movement of both ladders, that the steps (18) of the stand ladder (12) are set on the front faces of the spars (16) and the steps (22) of the displaceable ladder (14) are inserted between the spars (20) thereof and that the catch (36) is arranged above the supporting armature (26) and consists of a swinging flap mounted for swinging movement about a swinging axis substantially parallel with the longitudinal axis of the spar, the upper edge (40) of the flap opposed from the supporting armature (26) spaced from the yoke surface (30) of the supporting armature (26) at a distance at least substantially equal with the inner distance between the steps of the stand ladder (12).
