[origin: EP0167855A2] A can body is rolled out of a metal sheet blank (28) and has an outer and an inner longitudinal edge (12 and 14 respectively) which are welded to one another in an overlapping manner. Extending around the can body transversely to the longitudinal edges (12, 14) are two circumferential scorings (16) which laterally bound a tearable strip (18). The latter is extended by a tab (20) which is welded onto the outer longitudinal edge (12), which tab can be engaged by a key and rolled up. In a welding zone (42) adjoining an initial scoring (30), the tearable strip (18) is reinforced by the welded-on tab (20) in such a way that it is reliably torn from the can body along the circumferential scorings (16) when the tab (20) is rolled up. <IMAGE>
