A safety relay contains two operating contacts (25) which are operated by a common actuator (19), the operating contacts (25) lying in series in the power supply circuit, for example of a machine tool, to be protected. With the contact spring (27) of each of the two operating contacts (25), the contact spring (30) of a normally closed contact (28) is positively guided by a driver (31) which can move independently from the actuator (19). The operation of the two contact springs (27) of the operating contacts (25) by the actuator (19) takes place with such flexibility that, in the event of one of the operating contacts (25) being welded, although the actuator (19) can be moved so far back into its quiescent position that it opens the other operating contact (25), the driver (31) associated with the welded operating contact (25) is held firmly and holds the corresponding normally closed contact (30) in its opened position. In this way, a monitoring circuit passed via the two normally closed contacts (30) remains open so that, for example, a capacitor required for the renewed excitation of the relay is no longer charged and thus a renewed closing of the non-welded operating contact (25) for renewed operation of the machine tool is prevented. <IMAGE>

Ein Sicherheitsrelais enthält zwei von einem gemeinsamen Betätiger (19) beaufschlagte Arbeitskontakte (25), die in dem zu sichernden Versorgungsstromkreis etwa einer Werkzeugmaschine in Serie liegen. Mit der Kontaktfeder (27) jedes der beiden Arbeitskontakte (25) ist über einen von dem Betätiger (19) unabhängig bewegbaren Mitnehmer (31) die Kontaktfeder (30) eines Ruhekontaktes (28) zwangsgeführt. Die Beaufschlagung der beiden Kontaktfedern (27) der Arbeitskontakte (25) durch den Betätiger (19) erfolgt mit einer derartigen Flexibilität, daß bei Verschweißen eines Arbeitskontaktes (25) zwar der Betätiger (19) noch so weit in seine Ruhelage zurückbewegbar ist, daß er den anderen Arbeitskontakt (25) öffnet, der dem verschweißten Arbeitskontakt (25) zugehörige Mitnehmer (31) jedoch festgehalten wird und den entsprechenden Ruhekontakt (30) in seiner geöffneten Stellung hält. Damit bleibt ein über die beiden Ruhekontakte (30) geführter Überwachungsstromkreis geöffnet, so daß beispielsweise ein zum erneuten Erregen des Relais erforderlicher Kondensator nicht mehr aufgeladen wird und damit ein erneutes Schließen des nichtverschweißter Arbeitskontaktes (25) zur erneuten Betätigung der Werkzeugmaschine verhindert wird.
