Gripping device, in particular for an excavating machine, having two exchangeable grab jaws (3) which are pivotable towards one another into a closed position and away from one another to form the open position, with a preferably hydraulic operating device for the grab jaws, which are detachably connectable therewith ; and with a support device (1) for securing the grab jaws on the excavating machine, characterised in that both the grab jaws (3) are mounted on a frame (7) of the support device (1) by means of a quick-change mechanism, to which there belongs for each grab jaw (3) an automatically-separable pivot bearing (13, 16) comprising a bearing axle (16) and an open bearing shell (13) which supports said bearing axle force-lockingly, and also in each case a pivoting lever (9) which is movable by means of the operating device (2) and which engages on the grab jaw (3) at a distance away from the pivot bearing (13, 16) in such a way that it ensures, in all operating positions, a secure support position between the bearing axle (16) and the bearing shell (13).
