Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0168810A1] 1. Torch for plasma-MIG welding, comprising a consumable electrode guided in an electric contact arrangement arranged centrally inside the burner, an electrically conductive plasma nozzle surrounding the said electrode at least partly and comprising an inserted, non-consumable annular plasma anode, it being possible to maintain a plasma arc enveloping the electrode between the said plasma anode and the workpiece, further a secondary arc burning between the said plasma nozzle and the inert gaz nozzle, an inert gas nozzle surrounding the said plasma nozzle, and a shielding gas nozzle embracing all these components, characterized in that a) the contact arrangement between the electrode takes the form of a contact pipe (3) tapering conically towards the plasma nozzle (7, 7') and being provided with a bore closely adapted to the electrode diameter, the said contact pipe being surrounded by the plasma nozzle (7, 7') and the plasma anode (21) at least on its outlet end for the electrode ; b) the plasma nozzle (7, 7'), the inert gas nozzle (12, 12'), and the shielding gas nozzle (14, 14') are provided, at least in the area of the nozzle tip, with an insulating layer which is resistant to very high temperatures, in particular with a hard anodized oxide layer (17, 23, 32) ; c) the electrode (4) extends through the plasma nozzle (7, 7') and into the area of the inert gas nozzle (12, 12') ; d) the inert gas nozzle (12, 12') is designed in such a manner that the produced gas jet serves for focussing the plasma jet in a controllable manner ; and e) the inert gas nozzle (12, 12') has a diameter (d) in the range of 6 to 11 mm, in particular in the range of 7 to 9 mm.
