[origin: US4656804A] The invention relates to a cylindrical mast element comprising a tube (2) one end (4) of which is extended by a sleeve tube (5), and each end of which has plane, inclined surfaces (7, 8). Its wall is constituted by successive coils of pieces of fabric impregnated by polymerizable resin, all of which is then polymerized. The element has, in the zone (9) near a beveled end (6) facing the sleeve tube (5) of an adjacent coupling element and corresponding to the coupling zone (9), at least one additional piece of oriented fabric, which is disposed in such a manner that its greater strength is in the transverse direction of the mast. A plurality of elements may be joined for constructing a mast. To this end, the tubular elements are internested end to end.

Elément de mât cylindrique, constitué d'un tube (2) dont une extrémité (4) est prolongée par un manchon (5), et dont chaque extrémité présente des surfaces planes et inclinées (7, 8). Sa paroi est constituée par enroulement successif de pièces de tissu imprégné de résine polymérisable, le tout étant ensuite polymérisé. Il est caractérisé par le fait que, par rapport au reste de l'élément, la zone (9) proche de son extrémité biseautée (6) opposée au manchon (5) et correspondant à la zone d'emmanchement (9) d'un élément semblable, ledit élément présente au moins une pièce supplémentaire de tissu orientée qui est disposée de manière à présenter sa plus grande résistance dans le sens transversal du mât. Application aux éléments de construction de mât, et plus généralement aux éléments tubulaires emboîtés bout à bout.
