[origin: EP0169350A2] Clearance adjusting means for rotating cutters, the cutter drums of which, firmly seated on a pair of supporting shafts having helical driving gears, possess longitudinal openings for receiving cutter bars, in which openings the latter can be clamped with the aid of fastening elements acting on clamping wedges and capable of being subjected to pressure, are to be improved such that the disadvantages of the known complex means for displacement of a driving gear on the supporting shaft and its locking are avoided, and the axial position of both cutter blocks relative to one another remains unchanged during the clearance adjusting process. For this purpose, retaining stops are proposed, which are arranged in the supporting frame of the rotating cutters and fix the cutter bars, during an axial displacement of one of the supporting shafts with cutter drum and driving gear relative to the other, in their position in the longitudinal openings of this cutter drum. <IMAGE>
