Die Erfindung betrifft eine Vorrichtung und ein Verfahren zum Betreiben eines automatischen Türschließers mit einem an der Tür schwenkbar angreifenden Verbindungshebel (1) und einer von dem Verbindungshebel (1) gesteuerten motorischen Einrichtung (3), die bestrebt ist, die in die Offenstellung geführte Tür zurückzustellen, wobei der Verbindungshebel (1) mittels einer sich mit dem Verbindungshebel (1) drehfest verbundenen Drehhülse (2) in die motorische Einrichtung (3) erstreckt, die sich bei der Öffnungsbewegung der Tür innerhalb der motorischen Einrichtung (3) frei dreht und bei ihrer Drehbewegung die motorische Einrichtung (3) in Tätigkeit setzt, die bestrebt ist, die Drehhülse (2) wieder in ihre Ausgangsstellung zurückzuführen, wobei die Wirkverbindung zwischen der motorischen Einrichtung (3) und der Drehhülse (2) zwecks Rückführung der Drehhülse (2) in ihrer Ausgangsstellung zeitlich einstellbar ist und die Verbindung zwischen der motorischen Einrichtung (3) und der Drehhülse (2) unter Zwischenschaltung eines federnd elastischen Mittels (14) erfolgt.
