Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0171775A2] A safety switch is shown and described, namely a socket (1), to be precise a socket (1) which can be inserted with a plug into a wall socket, the socket (1) having an earth-leakage current measuring device (2) and a protection switch (4) which interrupts the circuit to be closed or opened if an earth-leakage current is detected. In the safety switch according to the invention, the operation of the protection switch (4) in the event of detection of an earth-leakage current takes place without any control current, such that an electromagnet - having a coil (5) and a core (6) - is connected to the earth-leakage current measuring device (2), whose coil (5) is electrically connected to the earth-leakage current measuring device (2), and whose core is mechanically connected to the protection switch (4) and transfers the protection switch (4) into the protection switch "off" position following detection of an earth-leakage current which de-energises the coil (5), by means of a return spring (7) engaging with the core (6), and the coil (5) which is subjected to current is adjustable, by means of an adjusting mechanism, taking with it the immersed core (6) and tensioning the return spring (7), from the protection switch "off" position to the protection switch "on" position.
